Urgent! Betta Help!

HI there! So I just got a white halfmoon betta yesterday. Unfortunately, my parents bought him on an impulse buy so they did not get a proper tank etc. I am currently sourcing equipment to get him the best tank. However, in the meantime he's in the little container and I'm starting to get worried. I've done a 50% water change today since its such a small container. But I noticed that he's got a black stain on the tip of his tail. Can anyone help me identify what it is? And what can I do to treat it?

Welcome to Fishlore!
The stain is probably just his colouration - I wouldn't worry unless it starts to grow or spread rapidly.
It's good that you're looking into getting him a bigger tank, I'd recommend at least 5 gallons but larger is always better. In the meantime, you should aI'm for at least 50% water changes every day and feed minimal amounts to help keep ammonia levels down.
Good luck with him, he's very pretty

Might be the beginning of fin rot or possibly his coloration, hard to tell.
Personally I would say it's just his coloring but I can't tell for 100% certainty.
With that small of a tank and no filter, you could do 50-100% water change every day/every other, just don't clean the rocks tho, that's the only thing holding bacteria at the moment.
Just keep the water clean until you upgrade

If you need help finding a tank I recommend the Betta Bow 2.5, the only thing you would need is a heater plus decor. Otherwise, petsmart sells 5 and 10 gallon kits (still have to buy a heater though) that are just as good.

Good advice, just wanted to correct that it's okay to clean the rocks because the bacteria isn't really doing anything unless it's in a filter

I live in the Caribbean so I don't think I'll need the heater. Also its kind of limited for tanks. I did find a Kollercraft 3 gallon Betta Fish Bowl. But it doesn't come with a filter. So I'm gonna have to find one of the biochemical ones that go underwater and use an air pump.

That is true, I should of stated not taking them out and like doing a complete clean on them like running them over hot water or smth. I used to do that with I first got into bettas and just assuming all other beginners do. They might give a little bit of help when they do get a filter and can throw the rocks in a filter bag.

That could be, I've never thought of that before I think for the sake of getting bits of leftover food and such out of the substrate though it's good to have the option to take the gravel out in a small tank.
