It looks exactly like the synodontis Lace that I get at my local Walmart.

Probably a silly question, but why buy an unknown fish?

There great and easy fish but they do get big, I say big when mine get about 4" they get traded for smaller ones and I start over.

They seem so hard to distinguish especially with the patterns from dots to stripes what only seem to be On the upside downs and the laces being full of dots unless as they grown their pattern changes? Lol or it might just be a wait and see how big he gets as hes only about 3" now

Lace, an upside down has a smaller dorsal, plus they stay smaller than lace and featherfins.

All of mine once acclimated will come out to forage when feed, and then retreat to cover after feeding. In the pic. he looks small you must have him in a big tank?
