Upset and venting

What a lot of people don't understand, is we're still in the early stages of this. They think it's been a few weeks and it must be getting better. It's not!

Weatherunderground has a US only map that you can go state to state, or county to county within a state, and see the daily updates of confirmed cases and fatalities. It's going up daily, not down.

Businesses need to start enforcing "necessary" items and services only. Maybe then people will get the message. "That's not necessary, go home!" Places like, sorry to say, pet stores needs to only sell essentials. Food and necessary supplies only! No fish, gerbils, hamsters, parakeets, or any other pet or toys that aren't necessary for the care of a pet.

As a perfect example, I live 12 miles from the California Poppy Reserve. Because of our rains in February and early March, the poppies and other wildflowers are in full bloom (I've been told) this year, but though I want to go and fill my camera, I'm staying home. The police/sheriff's departments need to patrol these areas and start citing all the looky-loos and those just hanging out. They will get the message. They need to be patrolling any place people gather, and cite them and send them on their way!

Though I 99% agree with you, I disagree on the outdoors. As long as you stay at least 6 feet from other people there, there isn't any hazard in being outdoors. Not the shopping street mind you, but being in nature is fine. Walking your dog when no one is around is also fine. Just don't do it where other people are and stay out of zones with lots of buildings since you're likely to run into people.
The potential problem is that spaces like public parks don't count since everyone will want to go there and they'll still be too crowded to avoid being near people - that's something not everyone seems to get yet.

I don't think it's the early stages. No one can say when this will blow over or if we're in the middle or later part of this. But it will eventually end, like all pandemics.

There's nothing wrong with being selfish when it comes to looking out for your best interest.
Is it possible to be selfish without looking out for your best interests?

I agree with you about the outdoors, and I don't have any firsthand knowelege as I haven't been out, but if it's like anywhere else, people won't keep their distance. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree, it will eventually pass, but from what I'm reading and the trends I'm seeing, it's not showing any signs of leveling off, at least here in the US, which I would consider being somewhere in the middle. While it may have progressed beyond "early stages", it's still a major health threat and it's getting worse, not better.

Is it possible to be selfish without looking out for your best interests?
How is ignoring stay at home orders to go on a shopping spree in any way considered in anyone's self interest? To me, that's selfishness with no self interest involved.

Nutella is my response to this. Definitely not healthy, probably destroying the rainforest, but I don't care, I'm still eating tubs of that stuff...TUBS. Because it's in my self interest.

I get your point . But Nutella isn't a communicable disease that can be easily transmitted, causing severe illness or death, especially to those with compromised immune systems. COVID-19 is. Going on an outing with the girls can unnecessarily spread the disease and infect others. I hope for your sake that the next tub you buy wasn't previously pawed over by some snot-nosed, carrying but not yet showing eight year old whose momma just came home from a shopping spree.

You asked, I answered. I'm sorry that you can't see the difference. One harms no one except possibly yourself, the other has the potential of causing illness and death with no socially redeemable benefit.

Okay, but I still stand by my flippancy, you can't be selfish without pursuing your own interest.

I'm glad you didn't take my snarkiness personally .

I'd better not dish it out, if I can't take a little in return.
