Upgrading to a bigger tank - 20 to 29

Hi all, so I have been in the fish tank hobby for about a year now with my 20 gallon aquarium. I have been really contemplating finally upgrading to maybe a 29 gallon. I have mostly had beginner fish such as tetras, swordtails, platys, guppies, etc. I've even tried to do a couple of GBRs but they never lasted long, sadly. They were very cool to look at but at most lasted probably two months or so in my tank. I have to upgrade to a bigger tank so I can get some bigger fish in it! I want to try GBRs again in this bigger tank but also want to really try out gouramis! I see them at my LFS and they look so cool. I was thinking like maybe two gouramis, two GBRs, and a handful of neon tetras, with some algae eater dudes. Is that too much for a 29 or can I get away with it? Will everyone be alright in a community tank like that?

What are some other stocking ideas for a 29 gallon? I'm open for trying some new fish! I'm going to head out to my LFS tomorrow and take a look around and ask for some recommendations!

Gouramis and Bolivian rams is a bit tough, but a lot of people do it. Some say the gourami is too aggressive for the ram and vice versa, so it just seems like luck of the draw. I think you could get away with a 1-2GBR , 2-3 dwarf gouramis, and a school of neon tetras, and a school of corys. (If you take the higher of one, take the lower number of the other fish for the gourami and ram) Just have an insane over filtration and keep up with your water changes, like once or twice a week 25 - 50%.

What if I were to scrap the GBRs and go with dwarf gouramis and do some other fish like guppies, swordtails, platys, etc?

Corydoras are fun and a good fit for a 29 gallon community.

I’ve got Tetras and rasboras in mine, but I find the mollies are far more fun to look at, they’re constantly on the move and great for cleaning plants of algae

What if I were to try out angelfish? How many could I get and still have a community tank? I'm thinking 1-2? I'd still like to try a couple dwarf gouramis, maybe a school of tetras then some coryes or mollies

They aren't algae eaters in the typical sense of like Otos or plecos obviously, but they will pick at it on rocks here and there for sure!
