Upgrading tank from 5 gallon bucket to 10 gallon

I'm upgrading from a 5 gallon tank (actually a bucket with a sponge filter in it) to a 10 gallon. Inside the tank there are a couple molly.
This is my game plan:
Fill a pitcher with tank water.
Scoop the fish out with the net and out them into the pitcher.
Pour all the water from the 5 gallon bucket into the 10 gallon tank.
pour the fish into the 10 gallon tank.
add back the sponge filter.
after a couple hours fill the tank to the top.

I feel like I won't need to acclimate the fish as this is basically a 50% water change right?
Let me know how you guys think.

Or you could forget adding any new water at all for awhile. Wait a day or two and change a couple pints at a time.

Move half the water to the new tank, move the fish, move the rest of the water, add 5 gallons to fill the tank.

It's no diff than a water change. Do you have a male and a female? Do you have a plan to deal with fry?

Ultimately it will just be like a big water change.

I recently went from a 29G to a 125G tank. I transferred as much media to my new tank (that has the bb) as I could. I transferred about half the water from the old and filled the rest with the same temp water as the original and did the usual stuff to newly added water (water conditioner etc). I then acclimated each group of fish (tetras, Cory’s, etc) for about 25 mins before putting them into the new tank. They were fine and have acclimated well and are thriving.

The biggest thing is the bb. As long as you transfer (seed) the new tank with the old bacteria and don’t get any new fish, until the new tank is settled, you will be fine. If you want to add new fish to the bigger 10G tank, just do it slowly so the bb can acclimate to the larger load of fish.

Would moving my old sponge filter be enough? I don't have gravel or decor in the bucket

They were originally fry from my 20g tank. I found them and put them in this bucket tank. Now I want to give them a bigger tank. If they make fry I'll probably take em out and move em to another bucket tank or something

If you don’t have anything else in there that the bb can grow on, that should be enough.

BB mainly grows on decorations, gravel, filter floss etc. So if that is all you have in the 5G then that should be where the majority of the BB is and you should be good to go. After the transfer just keep an eye on the parameters (even though you should be fine) it doesn’t hurt to make sure. I’m much more of a “I need to see the test results to know it’s okay” person lol

Good luck!

...out of curiosity, is 10g really the recommended size for Molly fish over there?
Because here even a 33g is considered on rather the small side for molly ... most people don't recommend a tank under 42g (100cm minimum length).

Update:
I did as kansas suggested (moving half the water to the new tank, adding the fish, then adding the remaining water and it's all good so far. In about an hour I'll add 5gal of new water and post another update
