Guys! Weve upgraded our tank to a 20 gallon high! I've been thinking a lot if I should buy it because we need to buy a new filter and heater because 20 gallon and 5 gallon is way different! We still bought it because we wanted our fishes to have a great life. I first thought about buying a 15 gallon but there were none. So we ended up buying a 20 gallon high! Yay

20 tall definitely has some options. Don't currently use mine, but i don't plan on getting rid of it, either! (Helps it is still on its stand in the garage)

The filters will be different. You can take the media out of the 5g filter and put it in the 20g filter, (if you are not keeping the 5g.) Then move as much over of your deco and substrate and you can, then maybe you will have instant cycle if you keep the same stock and add slowly.

Is this a filter media?

Yes. Whatever is in your 5g put it into the new 20g filter so the water flows through the old one into the new one, then out. Do you have one of those in your 5g that is well cycled?

Yes that's in the 5g filter. I don't know if it's well cycled because I only added Tetra SafeStart.

Oh ok I see you just started the 5g...I though it was already running. Lol Sorry. Scrap what I said then. Have fun with the new tank!

But the 5 gallon, I've been using it for 1 and a half month. There's live fishes in there still.
I meant like, I didn't cycle it. I only add Tetra SafeStart to the water and that's it. (I added water conditioner)

Have you checked the parameters to see if it is cycled? Are you keeping that one too?

I'm going to cycle my tank this way: will it work?
1. Remove the decor and everything from my 5 gallon
2. Place the old decors and everything to the 20 gallon
3. Use the same water
4. Add SafeStart
5. Add declorinator/water conditioner
6. Test water parameters after 1 hour
7. Add the fishes in

Where are the fishes at while you are doing this? and are you filling the tank up with temp matched water? Do you have gravel?

Yes and yes. I'm going to leave the half of the water in the tank. Then I'm going to net them. Add all the waters and make more water.

Well hopefully you can get the gravel out without stirring up too much gunk. Thats always the hard part!

If you want to put new decorations in there remove the old ones 1 at a time. Because they will have bacteria on them. And remember to stock slowly......

Easier said than done, lol. The 5G/10G aquarium is the equivalent of the model train set with a circle of track. It's enough to get started, but soon most hobbyists will want/need more. Often, a lot more.
