Folks will probably need a general idea about where you’re located to make suggestions?

Go with the 150. Gives you extra height [i think]. Only issue is finding tall decorations that keep the top of the tank from looking barren. I would get it from a trusted local shop. They can order it. My local store on Long Island even delivered my 150 for no charge. Edit to add i had upgraded from a 90 to the 150 and i should have went with the 150 right away. I'm down to a 55 gal now and dreaming of going back to a big tank.

Yes your location is key. For size first where are you putting it? How close is a water supply and drain and electric? How much space is available. Measure and put tape down so you know exactly! Than go from there. What size tank are you using now? What type of fish are you thinking of keeping. Bigger is always better! But if your using a small tank to big may be a drawback. Lots to get for a big tank.

As to where to get? Try Craigslist,OfferUp and Facebook market place. Make sure the tank holds water! Now a days used is as big a gamble as buying from the pet warehouses. Custom made seems to get better reviews. Acrylic over glass but it’s twice as much. So that’s next. Set a price that you plan to spend.

I would go with a larger one, unless space is a concern (or water bills, if you're like me and live in a "drought susceptible area" aka, a desert)

Type of fish, and stocking makes ALL the difference, but the main concern in the footprint of the tank. Height is less important.

Bigger tanks mean either more or taller decor, and that means more money.

Also, take into consideration the age of the house, and the stand you want to put it on. Floors are rarely made to hold up fish tanks. Older houses are less likely to be built to do it, and are more likely to have issues. The stand can make or break the experience. Get one that puts the rim of the tank at BELOW your armpit height. It will make maintenance SO much easier. That, or buy a nice step ladder.

I just laughed out loud at the part “get one that puts the rim of the tank BELOW your armpit”.... I have a 90 gallon and I’m 5 “8 but but my poor armpit gets all beat up daily from any maintenance I attempt to do without a step ladder. Wish I had known this before!! Funny the things we learn as we go!

I had a 60g tank that was like that. I'm 5'11", but when I built my stand to replace the old store bought one, i put it about elbow height. It is a bit low, for viewing if I'm standing, but sitting, it's fine, and I dont have to get my sleeves soaked or choose if my arm or sock feet are gonna hurt the next day lol

Yes! oh man forgot about that part too, you literally have to soak all your sleeves or get topless to make any tank adjustments haha what a time!! If I ever rebuild my stand I’ll keep all this in mind!!
