Upgrade from 6.5 gallons?

I have a crowntail male betta. He's young, but well past the fry stage. He has a 6.5 gallon tank I got from walmart. This tank looks small for him. I have a 10 gallon tank running with no fish.

Would this upgrade be too much for him? Or would he love the space? I always thought bettas from Thailand lived in small paddies, so is 10 gallons too much space?

 

Many people keep bettas in ten gallon setups. I have a female in one right now. They do fine.

 

He should be just fine, is the 10 gallon cycled? He's handsome, what's his name?

 

My Betta loves his ten gallon kingdom! However, until your 10 gallon is properly cycled he needs to stay in the 6.5. He has enough room to live the rest of his life in there so he can wait for a full cycle. Do you know about the nitrogen cycle? What kind of filter do you have? It's possible you could move the filter over and not have to cycle.

 

I know the nitrogen cycle. I have another 10 gallon running perfectly with some fish. And this 10 gallon I want to put him in is cycled. I had a few guppies in it that I sold

Bettas do not live in puddles, oxen footprints, or anything like that. They come from rice paddies and drainage ditches, each male having a 3x3 area to themselves, your boy would love a 10 gallon.

 

It probably lost its cycle if nothing has been living in it for more than 2 days.
