Evening people,
Just doing a bit of an update on my angels!
So, my pair of angels have been spawning pretty much every week. They are on they're 4th spawn together. This is the male's 7th spawn, and the female's 4th. They did fantastic in the main tank. The laid on the filter, and 2 days later, they hatched. The parents did exceptionally well, considering there are lots of other fish and threats in the tank. They moved their newly hatch wrigglers to a val leaf on the other side of the tank, were they stayed and protected their young for another 2 or 3 days before I moved them into their own tank.
However, the brine shrimp eggs did not come in on time, and there are no babies left I'm really upset by this, as they did a fantastic job looking after the babies, protecting them from danger 24/7. If only I ordered the baby's food earlier
I expect them to spawn again soon, as they are cleaning off their spawning rock.
On the brighter side, my juvenile angels are now 10 or 11 weeks, as of being laid as eggs. I've made a deal with my LFS. They are wanting 10, for $2.00 each. This is an 'alright' price, isn't it? They are doing well, and I moved a little more than half the batch into the main tank and they are doing great it there. It's strange, though. Some babies are two, maybe even three times larger than some other of the fry. It's amazing how they all grow at different rates!
Some more good news, I bought a female angelfish three days ago. She is a silver angelfish (I think). She is kind of a metallic silver, with 4 black stripes. She might be a zebra lace, though I'm not certain.... I'll try to post some pics!
Anyways, only 3 days in her new tank, and she's spawned with my golden, pearlscale male angelfish in the main tank!
I feel kind of like a fish genius, because I managed to sex her, before I bought her! The way I sexed her was by getting a close look at her belly. She was plump and the tip of her pappila was external. So, obviously female! I'm proud of myself, lol. She was bit expensive, though. She was $30.00. That's the most I've ever paid for an angelfish. Although, I guess she was worth it. I got a breeding pair out of it! Plus, her colour and pattern is stunning, and her fins are at good length and have no imperfections. She's incredible!
Once the babies reach their wriggler stage (if, that is) I will move them to their own tank with the parents. There, they should be safe.
Anyways, just an update on my angelfish! But, I do have a question, and I would be very appreciative if someone answered this.
Every week my older pair are spawning. It's causing the tank to go chaotic. Constantly, they scare all the other fish to the opposite side of the tank. I added the newer angelfish to the tank (this was a few days ago) and all the angels did was harass the others. Is there anyway I can have all 4 adult angels in the tank, without aggression? Is there anyway to lower aggression by stopping them from spawning?
When they fight, it makes me stressed... The two males will lip lock. Is this bad? I'm not sure whether to permanently separate the angels all together, or to let them squabble for a bit, and let them work things out for themselves. Any suggestions?
Thnx!
