Update on Angel

Hi:

Just wanted to let you all know that Angel has continued to thrive in her new 10 gallon tank. Now that she is in heated water (82 degrees) and has plenty of room to swim, she is sooooo happy.

She has only been in this tank for 8 days. The Bio-Spira was added a week ago tomorrow. I tested the water again today, all of the readings are still zero.

When I was at my LFS I was told Angel is actually a male. Oh well, just don't tell my daughter!! (We always assumed it was a female, she never flares at her reflection, etc.)

We found someone to house-sit for us. So now we don't have to worry about her being fed on a regular basis while we're gone.

In the last couple of days I've noticed that she has an area of her body (around what we call her "chin") that is losing it's color. Today, that area was larger, extending slightly toward her underbelly. I don't think it's ich - it doesn't look like white spots. It's more of a general area of discoloration. My husband doesn't think she looks any different than she always has. So, we're posting two pics of her. The first picture was taken almost two months ago. The second picture was taken tonight. What do you all think? Maybe the pictures are too vague to be able to tell a difference. Then again, maybe I'm just being paranoid!!

Thanks for your help!

It could be her new diet kicking in.  It actually looks like the red is spreading.  Fish also change color when they are stressed and she has been stressed lately with the move an all so I would not be too worried.  She sounds healthy if she is eating and the water is good and she is swimming and she seems active and loves her place.  If she was unhappy or sick she would be hiding or staying in a corner at the bottom or not eating or swimming then you would have reason to worry but she is not doing those things so just enjoy your lovely lovely lovely little male baby and who says an angel cannot be a male.  After all think of the angel Gabriel and Michael were archangels.

Thanks so much for your reply Rose!! I really appreciate your knowledgable opinion. Now I can stop worrying.

I wish you could see her swimming around - with your obvious devotion to Bettas - you would get such a kick out of watching her (him). She is like a different fish. If fish can be ecstatic, she certainly is! Compared to her bowl, this tank is more than a mansion. She is so lively & happy. Every time she sees us she swims up & down the side of the glass that we're on. It's almost like watching a child jump around with glee. It's like she's so excited she is trying to tell us "I love it here!"
