Unusual Celestial Pearl Danio Behaviour?

HI everyone. Today was my first water change with fish in the tank, and during cleaning and water change my Celestial Pearl Danio's were very shy. I expected this as they are shy normally and are new to the tank. However now, after the water change, they are swimming up near the filter outlet and swimming around the flow of the current instead of down the bottom above the substrate like they were before. Is this normal? Why might they have changed behaviour after a water change? Its a 15 Gallon, 0 Ammonia 0 Nitirite and about 3 Nitrate (Colour is between 0 and 5). Would the water change have caused them to change their activity?

Thanks,

Dan.

This is normal. They come from very fast moving waters. Typically, they feed in areas of turbulence as the water knocks bugs into the water.

Oh good thank you very much! I was worrying they might have got a little too stressed from the water change. I have only had them for a few days, and today they have been at their best, very lively and entertaining and travelling around all over the tank. Thanks again, your response is very reassuring.

Since you've only had them for a few days, this likely the first day they were actually behaving normally after adjusting to their new home; the fresh water was a special treat to them too. Enjoy your new fish.

I've noticed my fish are always perkier after a water change.

Actually, they come from shallow, still water ponds in a mountainous region of Myanmar. It's quite possible that the water change has invigorated them, but if they continue to act erratic, I would monitor the water quality closely.
