Unfortunately another gourami problem!

Something is wrong with our other dwarf gourami. Lately she hasn't been active at all and doesn't come out very often. Now i've noticed that she can't swim very well anymore. Right now she's at the bottom of the tank laying on her side. I don't see anything visibly wrong with her but i've noticed that she isn't eating much and today she seems that she's having trouble swimming. Is this swimbladder disease? I'm so worried, I don't want to lose another gourami!

Have you tested your water? If so what are the readings. I see that you also posted about your java fern turning brown. This all could be related t the water condition.

We can't test our water right now cause we had a faulty test kit but we've ordered a new one a couple days ago so it should be here soon. Once we get the new test kit I'll make sure we test the water straight away. I guess all I can do now are some water changes?

Once you've received your test kit, measure your water for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Larger and/or more frequent water changes are ALWAYS good when you suspect your fish are sick - so you're right.

I don't understand, our fish died! I found her this morning at the bottom of the tank and now she has a lump on her side just like the other gourami did before he died. How could this happen twice? All the other fish are fine! I haven't been able to test the water yet but we're going to take a sample of our water to the fish shop and have him test it for us. I watch the fish all the time to see how they interact and everyone gets along fine, i've never seen any misbehavior. And yesterday was the only day i've noticed she wasn't swimming well. I feel horrible, this is making me not want to get any more fish. What could we be doing wrong?

It could have just been those 2 fish. Have the store sample the water just so you know. By the way is the store replacing these fish?

sadly no because they only have a 2 day guarantee and the first fish was sick on the night of the second day and the second fish we had for about 3 weeks :'(

I am so sorry about your fish. Like Tumbleweed said, it could just be that those 2 fish were sick when you got them. Please post your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings when you can. Also, can you please post what size your tank is, what fish are still in the tank, and what is your routine for maintenance? How often do you do water changes, vacuum the gravel, and how much water do you change when you do water changes?
