Unexpected tank failure

Just walked into the office and notice one of my 29 gallon tanks had some water leaking from the base. Wiped the water away and it returned immediately! Had a 10 gallon grow out tank with 3 electric blue acaras ( 2 months old). Put the ten black neon tetras, two Bolivian rams, and a minnow in the 10 gallon. Grabbed my spare 20 gallon and emptied the 29. Not my plan for a Saturday night.

Oooof....though not ideal, at least you had something decent to put them in for the time being!

And you noticed it before disaster hit...your fish are lucky.

All tanks will fail at some point. No two ways around it. Youre lucky it wasnt catastrophic and you actually caught it.

I had a 55 blow out the back glass and dump all the water in a matter of 30 seconds. Luckily I was home and able to throw all the fish in the tub while I dealt with it. Had like 30+ fish in it and none died, lol.

It sucks. Good luck!

Wow a 55 blew out on you! Glad your fish were ok. Thanks for your response!

Had I not been sitting right next to it I would have lost all the fish in it. It blew out right along the back on the bottom seam. No water would have remained. Even if I had of been outside with the dog for 10-15 minutes. It would have been catastrophic.

Aw that stinks! Did your office have any damage after? Well at least you caught it and were able to save them! And now you get to redo the tank, it can be fun sometimes.

I was about to reset up a 29g last night & found a crack in the bottom, glad I found it before filling it up!

No damage to the office. I was just cleaning up and wiped off the desk a water came back immediately. I think the leak is on the bottom because it was a slow leak. You are right it is exciting to redo tanks.
Glad you found your crack in your tank before you set it up.

I had a sudden bottom plate seal failure on my 150 a couple years ago, luckily i had gotten a few of those cheap water/moisture detectors so i knew immediately. It was leaking at a rate of about a gallon or two a minute. Unfortunately it happened right before bed time so i was up for hours cleaning it all up. two things to check before setting up a tank of any size is to make sure that there is nothing between the tank and the stand, even a tiny pebble can break a tank once its full. Also make sure you don't need to shim the stand where it meets the floor, mine failed because the floor was uneven causing sheering/twisting force on the tank. If you have hard floors its also worth getting some of that tool box rubber liner and putting an even layer in between the stand and tank, this helps to lessen stress from nearby heavy foot falls.
