Unexpected celestial pearl danios fry

So, I had a 10 gallon tank with 9 celestial pearl danios in it (that I bred a while ago), and I decided to transfer them to another tank temporarily so I could make the 10 gallon a dirted tank. Well, turns out they laid eggs. My theory is that the eggs fell down into the gravel, so they couldn't eat them. Then, when the eggs hatched, since the adult fish weren't around to eat the fry, the fry survived. So now, I have a LOT of celestial pearl danio fry. I don't know exactly how many, but I'd estimate around 30. And, there are likely more that are still in the gravel, because they do not start swimming right when they hatch, and not all of them hatch at the same time. I have experience breeding these fish, but I have never had this many fry before, and I was not planning on having fry at all right now. After I raise them up and when this quarantine is over, I will probably sell this batch of fry (though I could do a species tank with a giant shoal of them). This was kind of a long message to get the story across, so my bad

TL;DR: I have a bunch of celestial pearl danio fry that I wasn't planning on having, but I am still excited about it.

I'm in the same boat. My endlers had 70+ babies before I could move her to the fry tank. Males in one tank and females in the other. I only have 2 10 gallons so I'm going to be doing water changes every day. This quarantine is making me go crazy lol.

That’s pretty cool. I’ve always really liked CPDs, great little fish.

I have three tanks in the kitchen side by side on an old, bombproof, woodworkers bench. One of the tanks is 10 gallons, densely planted in fluval stratum, lots of driftwood, with 1 betta, 2 assassins and a metric ton of blue neos. The other tank has Metae cory that constantly spawn from October to sort of, nowish-every year. The betta gets the cory caviar.

A couple of days ago I walked into the kitchen and saw some bizarre movement in the lower part of the betta tank. Sort of like a giant gollem moving scud. Looked and looked but didn't see anything and had no clue what it could be. My partner parked in front of the tank and went all csi with a flashlight and magnifying glass. Finally he found it. A baby metae! It's a good size, which I can hardly believe. I hope it's big enough to not fungus and somehow catch to move.

Love this thread. Hope more people add to it!
