Ulvaceus Bulb Questions

Hey forum friends! I was just reading up on ulvaceus bulbs today, and I saw on multiple sources that you have to take it out of the tank and put it in shallow cold water for a couple of months. I was just curious if anyone on here does that with their bulbs, or has had success with keeping their bulbs in the tank all the time. Thanks in advance!

By creating this change of temperature which commonly occurs in the wild, you are helping to strengthen the plant and prolong the life. One of the reasons most people do this is also to help with flowering. The plant will only flower if you create this drop in temps every year. Depending on your local conditions and aquarium inhabitants, you could go with out using a heater during these months.

Okay thank you for letting me know. How many months would be recommended for me to take it out of the tank, because I’ve seen conflicting sources on how long to do it for.

I usually let my bulb plants rest for around 4 months. I trim the leaves and place them in a damp paper towel in the basement. I say around 4 months but normally I just watch the house plants. They appear to also have a dormant period starting at the end of the october to the middle of march.
