Uk Aquarists - Anyone In The Manchester Area? Or Know It?

I may need to rehome my lovely group of young panda corydoras , and want to make sure they go to a suitable tank and a responsible fish keeper, rather than back to the store where they may end up with anyone. The trouble is I don't know how to find such a person in the local area. None of my friends keep fish. A work colleague does but for various reasons her tank wouldn't be suitable for them. I don't want money, just a good home for them.

Does anyone live around here and know if there are any local fish clubs, groups etc that I might be able to find a good home for them through? Or if not, any tips for responsible rehoming through free advertising sites?

The UK Buy/Sell/Trade/Free forum on here hasn't been used since May so I think the chances of me finding someone local through that are slim.

Mods - apologies if this is in the wrong place - please move if so. Wasn't sure where to put it.

I'm afraid there aren't many of us UK residents on here. I've met 3 others so far, you included.

I'm sorry, but I am in the south of UK (Surrey) so I'm not really any help... but you could try online I suppose.

Hi, give Steve at Aqualife a call, he may take them in his store or know someone local to you who will, he’s chairman of Preston & district aquatic club so is in the know.

Thanks so much Coradee, I'll do that! Really appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks!

It turned out to be easier than I thought. I put an ad on Gumtree advertising them for free, but only if I could have details / photos of the tank set-up and check the tank was suitable myself in person. I got several responses within a few hours and chose the person who seemed to have the best suited tank for them. I drove across the city centre last night to check it out and the guy had a great set-up, a 5-foot planted aquarium with healthy stock and clearly very dedicated to his fish. So the pandas have gone to their new home

I still feel kind of guilty though. I mentioned it to a friend and they made me feel bad for "giving away my pets". Rehoming fish seems to be an alien concept over here. But keeping fish is unsuitable conditions is totally normal and acceptable

Congratulations!!

I'm thinking of doing something similar to my guppies now that you mention it! Demanding a good home is a great way to find the best possible owners...
