Ugh! How do I get my betta to stop biting his tail!?!

Alright, a few months ago my betta Fin kept biting his tail. He finally stopped and it healed. Now he's back at it! It looks terrible and I'm afraid he's going to hurt himself.

split 10g. So he has five gallons to himself

 

Hmm, he just may be one of those betta's that doesn't like being on his own although 5g doesn't give you many options to try tank mates. Have you tried those betta toys, the floating flare mirrors for example?

 

Agree with Mazeus, it sounds like it has very little enrichment.

 

I can try get one of those. He likes to flare at my other betta through the divider too

I don't think tank mates would work though because I tried a snail once and he kept biting it.
