Tying Shoes and Fish Keeping

So....my title. You're asking yourself what does one have to do with the other or maybe you're thinking she's nuts!
On the latter you might be a bit correct.

When my daughter was little I tried to teach her how to tie her shoes.
.
No matter how many times I tried to explain and show her, she didn't get it.
Her father stepped in and showed her how he learned. Nope, no go.

She came home from pre-school one day and proudly announced she learned how to tie her shoes.
Her teacher taught her
It was a screwy way (imo) but whatever, my daughter could now do it on her own.

The point I am making here is obviously my husband and I know how to tie shoes
Our way was not her way.

It reminds me of many questions and answers here on the forum.

We all have a way of doing things.
We find what works for us and pass that information along.

What we read my not be our way of doing things just a different way to reach the same goal.

Hope enjoyed my analogy.

Ps...she's a young adult now and I still think she ties her shoes weird.

This is a great analogy. But, I have to ask... how does she tie her shoes? lol

I really enjoyed your post, Lucy.
I am a strong believer in the concept that a person misses out on a lot in life if they believe that their opinion is the only one that matters.
For example, whenever I get a new pair of sneakers, I tie the laces into a gigantic granny knot, and, viola, new slippers. OK, bad example, but I think your point very well made.-rick

I bet it's the same awkward way a friend of mine ties his shows

Like many things in life, one needs to find a method that they understand, and makes sense to them. As long as it achieves the same nett result, no method is better than another

Thanks for the analogy Lucy.

Good analogy Lucy. Sometimes we (I) need to be reminded that there is not only one way to do to some things.

there is not only one way to do to some things.
Saltwater is a great example. There's many many ways to achieve the same thing

My daughter always was weak in the fine motor skills dept, so I kept her in bungee cord bike shoes for a few years. It got harder and harder as they had to be black or white due to school rules, and the makers kept going with more rainbow colors to battle the ever changing tide of fashion. Then she got embarrassed about not being able to tie her shoes. I absolutely had to get her lace ups. She still won't tie them. The backs are squished flat because she wears them like mules. I guess the other kids don't bother her about it. But she can braid hair like you wouldn't believe...

And my fish tanks are a motley Frankenstein collection of used bits and pieces from random sources. But my fish seem mostly happy. Of course, they're mostly too hardy for their own good, but they look better than my daughter's shoes!

We tried Velcro once and quickly discovered that dog hair ruins it :b
