Two angels fighting

Hello all , I have two angel fishes that have been fighting for two weeks now i bought them last year maybe 7 or 8 months ago they were little the size of a quarter i bought them at the same time at the same place in the same tank . well for about two weeks now they have been fighting one is the mean one the other one swims away but they do like to stay together and sleep beside each other , i dont know the sexes of these fish they are in a 29 gallon tank . what would be the reason for them to be fighting ? thanks for your feed back in advance .

 

Like most Cichlids, Angels are territorial.
The most dominant member of the group will often claim an area, or an entire tank and defend it against all other fish; Especially other Angels.
Remedies include adding more Angels, rearranging the decorations or rehoming the offending fish. Your tank might be a little on the small side. Probably not a good idea to add another Angel.

 

A 29g is not big enough for two separate angelfish territories so unfortunately you likely need to rehome one of them.

Or upgrade to a bigger tank.

 

How big are they now? If they were quarter size months ago, I would assume they're around 3-4 inches? You may be able to sex them at this point. Usually you can tell by the size and placement of their breeding tubs. Females are wider.

Aggression between angels is normal, especially if you have two males. I've kept pairs in a 29 several times and haven't had an issue except the slight aggression that's expected from a pair mating.

Otherwise you likely need to remove one of them (the more passive one is probably the better bet if you plan on keeping other fish) or upgrade the tank size.
