Turquoise severum tank mates (aggressive)

Rollingjranch

We have a somewhat aggressive severum that we can’t get to be with any tank mates nicely.
She’s about 2 (got her about a month ago) and 5” in length.
Have tried her in a 55 with a 3” Jack Dempsey, 3” fire mouth and 3” red head severum. Was very aggressive to the fire mouth and ended up killing our fire mouth sadly.
Lots of hiding spots for the smaller fish she couldn’t get to. Was in there for two days when this happened and moved her to a 125g (6’)after her and the fire mouth had the first fight.

She’s been in the 125 for 2 weeks alone and we just took in some more rescues. Took in a clown knife(12”), 2 lunar catfish(8”) blood parrot (7”)and a fire mouth(5”) All these fish where homed together and lived with a Severum (he went to a different home)
After adding everyone to the 125 with our severum she instantly started going for the fire mouth and blood parrot(much larger than her) so we moved her to a 55gallon by herself for now.

At a loss for what to house with this severum never had an issue with a severum like this and running out of tanks for her to live in and don’t want to rehome her because she’s super smart and personable.

We are setting up another 125gallon 4’x2’x2’ that we wanted to do for an angel tank with bala shark but unsure of what to do with this severum. Open to ideas

thanks anyone for the help

Hi,

Just don't house it with other cichlids again. Bottom dwellers like loaches would be perfect in a 125gal with a group of 20 tiger barbs for example. Bala sharks will outgrow a 125gal. Instead of angel fish make the severum centerpiece fish.

thank you for your advice. Went to our LFS today and they have new loaches and barbs coming in next week that they said we have first picks on. While there talked about a a rainbow shark as the colors would look great with our Severum and another customer has a 4” rainbow they are looking to rehome that we are picking up Wednesday.
So that tanks plan will be severum, rainbow shark, 4-6 loach (unsure of which loch) then a pile of barbs depending on which size barbs we go with. Thinking of just loading it with tigers.
Tank will have two fluval 406 canister filters (put cycled) and two bio sponge filters also precycled.
Will add photos when everyone is home in the 125 gallon still have to finish cleaning it and decorate/substrate it. Should have it up and running this weekend with the severum and rainbow shark in it.
Here’s Roxanne our Severum in her temporary 55gallon
