Trying To Grow Algae For Nerites.

Ok. I'm going to supplement their diet with veggies also but I'm trying to grow algae on some rock in a jar.
I filled the jar with tank water and some rocks from my tank and put a small pinch a fish food for phosphates. I've been keeping it in the window for half the day until the sun goes behind the tree in the yard. Then I put it under a normal led lamp until bed.
Am doing ok? Will this grow the right algae?

I'm new to keeping aquariums, but I have noticed my tanks tend to grow more algae when I'm feeding my fish bloodworms more often. I feed them frozen bloodworms. Maybe it's just coincidence, but I think the algae growth might be promoted by the bloodworms. Maybe you could use bloodworms as your food you put in the jar. Like I said, I'm really new at this, but it's just a hunch. Best of luck to you!

I would just grow algae in the tank. With fish food as the source of food for the algae, you could introduce high levels of ammonia into the tank.

Personally, I would just leave the lights on the tank for longer and feed a little extra.

IME, nerites like fresh veggies more than algae.

I put zuchinnI in tonight. We'll see if it's touched in the morning. How long can I leave it in?

I would go 24-48 hours max. They are snails and will have a hard time finding the veggies first.

Rocks in a bucket, in the sun works.

I have a hard time finding nerites in some of my tanks so setting them on the zucchinI would be tricky.

Right. I just lucked out that I could see and reach them. I know that's not a long term action. I don't want to hurt them either so I probably shouldn't. Idk how fragile or sturdy they are being do new

I have a tank in my office and of course I want it to look good all of the time. Initially I got algae and diatoms covering all of the white quartz rocks I had. You couldn’t even tell the rocks were white after a month plus algae on the glass.

I got a nerite and a mystery and in a couple of days the rocks were white, glass was clean and plants mostly clean.

Then thinking more is better, I got a bristle nose pleco. Now i’m worried they aren’t getting enough to eat so i’m going to start adding zucchinI and rocks covered in algae myself.
