Trying to get rid of algae in planted tank

i read that a blackout treatment is a good way to kill algae and they do a water change. i planned to get a bit of amano shrimp after this , but would this blackout also kill my plants? i have 2 amazon swords, and a bunch of anubias, oh and a bit of grass but i forgot what its called . but yeah algae everywhere. i assumed too much light time can cause algae to grow, but that didnt stop my algae from taking over, but i also just recently also read that too little light time can cause algae also. so i dont really know what but i boosted my light time to 10 hours, i run co2 for my plants, i orginionally decided to do injected co2 because i read that its supposed to stop algae growth but that didnt stop mine from growing ><. so this blackout treatment i read about, is my last ditch effort pretty much. thoughts? thank you for information =)

here's a picture picture to look at =) (not the problem above, but i did take an anubias on log out of my main tank that is the above) today is my WC day in a few hours so that's why the water is at that level. :p

A blackout for a few days won’t hurt the plants. I haven’t used CO2 and I am not sure if you should stop using it during the blackout. Adding some floating plants may help prevent algae as they take up excess nutrients and provide shade.

from what i read , that co2 shouldnt be fun during this time.
it would probably suffocate all my fish, and ive already done that twice unfortunately.

i always wanted to try floating plants, but from what iv experienced is that a HOB filter kinda ruins anything that floats by pushing it all into one spot

i did read that plants have like energy storage (so to speak) while algae does not. so algae would die a lot faster than the plants would, and it said that i should black out for a week and a week of co2 in the dark would absolutely kill everyone i think since the plants wouldnt be using co2 in the dark.. though i like to ask for help rather than go only by what i read because im simple :p

Yes that is what I was thinking, no CO2 during the blackout. You can keep floating plants away from the filter outflow using a semicircle of airline tube attached to the glass with suction cups, after a while this is no longer needed, the plants seem to hold them selves together once they have grown more.

interesting. ill have to try that. thanks, that always bothered me about hob outflow

edit: this is my attempt at what you said lol. will have to see after my wc and tank is full. maybe it needs to be smaller =) heh

edit 2: i move the suctions lower. looks better but still edit 1 :p

I've always had good luck eliminating algae with doubling the daily dose of seachem excel. Once algae disappears from the glass you can cut back to a normal or 1/2 dose until it disappears from your plant leaves and decor. I don't have to adjust my lighting or do anything differently while dosing. The algae will slowly disappear over a couple of weeks. I dose excel on a daily basis and my algae blooms are often caused by a cichlid digging up a root tab, or with overdosing other ferts trying to get new plants to color up or establish themselves more quickly.
