Troubles keeping shrimp colony in community tank

So my tank is a 30 gallon community planted tank. I have 3 female bettas, julii corys, neon tetras and galaxy rasboras.
yesterday I went out and bought 20 ish blue dream shrimp. Yesterday I watched them all swimming around and out an about, but today when I turned the light on I could only find 2.

I think the bettas could’ve snacked on some of them and taken the numbers down. Is there anyway I can prevent this? Any plants I should get for my shrimps or any layout I should go for? Or will I never be able to have my shrimps with bettas

A lot of the shrimp could be hiding, but most bettas don't work well with small shrimp, the only way for the shrimp colony to not be completely demolished would be with an extremely thickly planted tank. I don't believe you will be able to keep shrimp with the bettas unfortunately.

Aw man that sucks, well I think I’m going to keep trying to put more plants in my tank. I’m going for a jungle type look anyways so if it’s overgrown I don’t mind, I also think I’m going to try and get some sort of hiding area and keep trying to get a colony started.

Piles of small stones will give them hiding places but you won't see a lot of them with those bettas.

Maybe try a couple Amano shrimp? They're quite a bit bigger Getting around 2ish inches. Or maybe some Christmas or java moss tied/glued to thing in little clusters around the tank, I have a 30g community tank as well (not with Bettas) with some Cherry's and they love hiding in the moss, always a couple/most of them in the moss : )

Amano shrimp are cool I just don’t like how I can’t really have a colony because the babies can’t live in fresh water. And I have a bunch of Christmas moss and I think the ones that are still alive are all hiding in it.
My goal is to have like a bunch of fully grown shrimp to the point where even if the bettas get hungry here and there they can snack on one or two but it won’t effect the population too bad. I just think I might need more plants / hiding spots

Yeah..., That's the downside to amano's no babies : ( good plan with the hiding spots though, good luck : )

Thank you and I really looked through the moss when I got home from work and I found quite a few hiding so I still have a decent amount left, I think I’ll just make more moss hiding spots around my tank and then buy some more and hopefully should be good

if you keeping betta or bigger fish. don't keep caridina or neo shrimps. they are just food for the bigger fish. and even if you could provide enough hiding places for them, they will just be living i fear and hiding all the time until its all dark and risk coming out to get food.
either way you aren't going to see much of them even if you have great hiding places for them.

to have a colony so big that the betta's appetite is cant compete with the shrimp reproduction rate.....you would need a lot of shrimps!
