Triop Breeding Instructions?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if I could breed triops in a small aquarium or fish bowl. Can you provide instructions on breeding/forming a population of triops? I also had a few questions:

1. Can extras be kept in my 10-gallon tropical aquarium? It has fish, snails, and water slaters.
2. How big do they get?
3. How long do they live?
4. Are they good fish foods?

They’re vernal pool creatures. As thus, they don’t live very long. Not even a year. You don’t need a filter. In fact, I’d advise against it. But if you must, an airstone wouldn’t hurt.

They’re predatory. I can see them preying on small fish, like Ember tetras and ChilI rasboras. As kids, my brothers and I would drop in insects, and the triops would come up and grab them from the surface.

 

I wouldn't keep them with other fish, and they're known to prey upon other shrimp in the wild, and may go after snails. Also, they only live for 8 weeks on average.
The size depends on the species, but 2-3 inches is about average.
They risk harm to fish and would only be consumed by very large ones and aren't the most nutritious. In fact, in the wild they're really only eaten by birds and frogs.
Now, if you want to go a different route, you could try fairy shrimp. Also a vernal creature, but is a harmless filter feeder, and babies with their egg sacks have the same nutritional value as baby brine shrimp with their egg sacks. May be eaten by some fish, they only get about an inch, but they are more nutritious than triops.

 

I've grown both T.Longicaudatus and T.Cancriformis, and have never had any that could move quick enough to capture a healthy fish, be it an adult or fry. A dying fish will be a Triop smorgasbord, though.

 

I can’t picture one capturing a healthy fish either. They can probably catch slaters that are moulting.
