Transporting Driftwood with plants?

Akari_32

I'm moving my tank next week, and I have a bit of a problem I haven't really thought about: I have a good sized piece of driftwood with 3 Java Ferns attached to it.

How would I transport it? I was thinking either a garbage bag (but that might rip?), or a tubber ware container, either one with some tank water in the bottom, to keep everything thing wet.

My trip consists of 2 days of 4-5 hours of driving.

Any other ideas/tips/whatever?

I would put it in a standard bucket with a lid.

Buckets with lids are invaluable for moving fish and things.

Ya, I'd put it in a container with lid and tank water. Might as well ensure the bacteria survives the trip and not risk a plastic bag splitting.

Are the plants attached to the wood really well? If not, you might think about tying them down for assurance because there's likely to be some sloshing going on in the car that could shake them loose.

About how much would that cost, and where could I find one the cheapest? Home Depot or WalMart?

I was just going to bag my fish, since they are all small enough, and when I get to my 1/2 way mark, they'll be going in a 3 gallon bowl sort of thing for the night.

The two plants that aren't rubber banded, are literally shoved up into the wood, in crevices. They may or may not have had enough time to root themselves. I have lots more rubber bands, so if they don't make the 1st 1/2 of the trip, I can rubber band them back on if needed

Wal-Mart is cheaper for those things.

I actually scored pretty good on a nice Sterelite continer at Publix. Its a decent size that I can use to store stuff in when I'm not moving across the state LOL

Best of luck with the move!

Thank you!

I'm moving from West Florida (almost Alabama), aaaaaall the way to South Central Florida. 8-10 hour drive. I have too much A.D.D while driving, so I'll be making it over two days lol

I think I have it all planned out though

Akari,
I would have recommended a home depot paint bucket, but it seems you already have it figured out.

Have fun!!! LOL

PS- you aren't that far... feel free to stop by anytime.

That'll double my trip!

Home Depot is pretty far. I can still run and get one, though, if I need to, though. I think I'll bag the fish, and set them down in the bowl, and put the bowl in the floor of the passenger seat floor board. Its very stable, and heavy duty (like 1/2 inch thick. Its a glass canister from WalMart. Holds about 3 gallons).

Do you think filling the bowl 1/2 way and taping the lid down with some duct/electrical tape would work, too? It'd give the fish more room and save me time trying to bag them all. (If you need a visual, I'll glad make one for you LOL)

I'm open to all ideas

the bucket and lid shouldn;t cost more than 5.

so what will you do with the fish for those 2 days? just leave them in the bag?

Wow, really? Because I saw a bucket at WalMart that was like 6 bucks. Nothing fancy, either. Just a grey 5 gallon bucket. WalMart fail.

The fish'll be let loose in the bowl over night. I bought two gallon jugs of spring water, and I'll do a water change tomorrow, and use the spring water, then come Tuesday afternoon, I can fill the jugs up with tank water, and not have to acclimate them to new water until I get home.

Thanks! I'm staying the night in Gainsville. A family friend has nice comfy couch, a cute puppy and 3 cats (one named Rabies LOL), to keep me company If only my friend in Tallahassee would have driven with me, or I could do it all in one day, and make her drive 1/2 way! >=(

If only Harpua wasn't in the complete opposite direction, or I'd have to stop in and kip nap some fish and plants

Fish Protector is a vitamin and herbal thingy. Reduced stress and heals wounds, should any be sustained during the trip.

Some day, SOME DAY, I will order fish from her! >

I bought plants, and through no fault of hers, they are a little sad. I blame Veterans Day, and the Post Office being closed. And my job. Stupid job!

Hey, where are you?
Are you OK?

Just looking out, like the rest of us. We are all hoping you have a safe trip. If anything happens, we'll come over and rescue the fish
