Trade my Platy Fry for a Convict?

Today I took two of my platy fry to my former Aquatics teacher for him to have (I'll give him more as they grow). As I was looking in the cichlid tank, I noticed the fry survival rate was amazing. There had to be at least 50 half inch long babies in there with the dad (The mom died a couple weeks ago)
These fry seem pretty hardy. Some of the students moved a couple fry into a huge 75 gallon tank with a big Oscar a few months ago when they were tiny! They're all still alive o.o

Anyways, he said since I gave him those fry, he'd be willing to let me have one or more of the Convict fry. Of course, I would only want to raise one.. But I'm not sure where it could go. I only have a 20 gallon and 10 gallon. The 10 is the only one that's empty right now. Everything else is in the 20. Maybe he/she could live a few weeks in the 10 for QT then get moved to the 20 (Id move the Platies to the 10)

Would a Convict play nice with the ABN once they're both grown? I love my ABN but the Convicts are so pretty and fun.

Off-Topic: While I was examining the fry, the father came to the glass of the tank and gave me a mean look. I put my finger to the tank and he headbutted the glass so hard you could hear the *tink* o.o Scared me. I think he may have brain damage from that

I have no idea how big convicts get, so I'm not sure about being ok in a 10 or a 20, but I'm sure they'd be fine with the ABN.

The father of the Convict fry is pretty small about 3" I think they don't get much bigger than that and need a 20 minimum tank.. But that's all from online research. The aquatics teacher had the two Convicts in a 20 and that's currently where the father and fry are.

A female will stay small near the 3" mark, however males will get a fair bit bigger.

Here is a male probably around 7".

And the other part of the pair, about a 2.5" female.

You could do a "pair" in a 20gal as they will will start spawning at a small size, but it wouldn't be the best set up long term. Your best bet would be to get a few grow them out just a bit and keep a female or possibly two. It won't be hard to know which are females... the will color up at a very small size and the males should double a females growth by 2-3".

Ok so I got 5 fry from him and I plan on growing them out for a bit and keeping just one, a female. I don't want a Pair. They are scary when they spawn lol. They seem to have taken a liking to the Platy fry. They're all buddies now. I guess the convicts are used to being babied by their parents while my Platies fend for themselves so the Platies are showing the convicts the ropes. Lol. Cute. They're all hiding under the big rocks together
