Aquascaping
  • #1
Hello everyone,
I am new to this hobby and i dont want to rush in and add the fish. I want to start with growing plants from seeds (aquascaping) and im trying to know what all i would need to achieve it.
I have topfin 5 gallons retreat tank.
1) does the light they provided work for growing seeds in tank?
2) i am planning to but aquasoil, do i need anything else?
3) where can i buy seeds?
Or do i need any upgrades to my tank

thank you.

Welcome to Fishlore :)

Firstly, don't buy seeds. They are mostly scams aren't true aquatic species and will not survive long in a flooded tank. And if they aren't true aquatic plants, they are usually some sort of Hygrophila seeds which aren't actual carpeting plants. You are better off buying a culture of carpeting plants (like monte carlo and dwarf hair grass).

Aquasoil is great for plants but I don't think that alone will be enough for a carpeted tank. You can look into CO2 systems but since you're new to this hobby, it may be too much for you? Anyway, you can grow a carpet with just aquasoil and ferts but it will be very slow growing.

Hope this helps!

I'm not sure about lights since I always use the ones that come with the tank itself, so someone could help you better with that.

Easy plants are anubias, java fern, guppy grass, hornwort, etc. Also, pretty much any floating plant would be great.

Nicrew, Finnex Planted+, and Fluval to name just a few all make lights that will work for plants
