Too many water conditioners on the market, Which One is Best?

There are so many water conditioners on the market, which one is best? They all seem to have extra added benefits, but are the 'extras' really necessary? I did find a few threads on this topic, but were really old, so I didn't know if new products emerged or existing ones changed, or views on effectiveness changed.

I need more water conditioner soon so I'm trying to figure out what to buy.

Thanks in advance.

Seachem Prime is the best. Is it also super concentrated so it lasts a long time. I believe it's one cap (5mL) per 50 gallons.

I'd say most commercial name brand water conditioners are adequate. Prime has the benifet of temporarily neutralizing ammonia & being highly concentrated.

Yeah, I agree with everyone, Seachem Prime is the best as it last forever (don't take that literally) and it detoxifies heavy metals. But Stress Coat is helpful to have laying around to help deal with stress.

I was using other brands but switched to Prime and never turn back.

Prime is one of the cheapest. Seachem safe is a little harder to measure out, but is even cheaper.

Ok, I have phones my LFS, thier bottle of prime is 9.99 for a 17oz bottle, so i'm going with that. I think its even more from amazon! If it lasts a while, does it go bad, should I buy 2 at that price?

No harm in buying two bottles. In most cases one bottle that size should last quite a while.

I just checked my bottle and it doesn't have an expiration date that I can see. So you should be just fine getting two bottles. Your details say you have a 10 gallon, so two bottles that size will last you forever (even if you get a couple larger tanks).

Yeah, I thought my 50 ml bottle of prime would run out quickly, but 6 months later I still have half the bottle.

Yep I have a 10 gal running now, but need to update my profile when I get my other 2 up and running. I'm waiting on a 5 gal in the mail for my Betta (currently in a 2.5) and will be resealing my 48 gallon today, so I'll definitely have more gallons to condition.

And then there's MTS, so if I randomly decide on more tanks I'll have plenty of conditioner, my city's water reeks of chlorine, I hate it... It makes me nervous. Ironically, my towns water source is a fish filled river, so they heavily chlorinate to remove the natural bacteria.

My water is pretty crappy too, it used to have ammonia in it.

I think most people would agree with Prime, altho API Stresscoat has been my main one since I started the hobby in 2006.

I have an old jug of Pond Prime I bought in 2007. Its efficacy was almost the same as Prime I bought recently.

This is not an endorsement of Prime.

thanks you guys!

Bought the Prime, and LFS is always so happy with me when I come in with prior researched knowledge. They know me now, and know I research EVERYTHING I buy.
