To Euthanize or not

After upgrading my tank approx 6 months ago to I currently have my tank in the best condition (probably ever) with thriving fish/plants and I don't think I have had adeath in the tank for months.

However, all good things come to an end

I spotted one of my male guppies last week which seemed to have some sort of growth tumor that was growing next/under its eye. I've kept a look out for it to see how its going and last night whilst it was still active enough to go for food it seemed to be not swimming but just staying in the same place at the top of the tank (not struggling in any way to stay afloat) and the growth now seems to have taken a grey form over the eye to the point I'd assume the eye is now redundant.

My dilemma is do I let nature take its course or go down the euthanasia route (I've read the euthanasia thread)
clove oil seemed to be the most humane course of action if going via euthanasia..however this would be difficult for me to source where I live.

Also if it is a tumour and it does eventually pop...will this affect the other fish who show no signs of any problems in the tank

Thoughts my fishlore posters

I won't make this choice, but will say that word 'tumor' isused in many ways and it isthe minority of tumors that contain anything contagious. Luckily.
otherwise issues like cancer would spread to other people rapidly.

Since my original post the growth at the eye seems to have either popped or disappeared with no obvious distress to the guppy.

On closer inspection last night I watched it for about 10 minutes and it is every bit as active as the others in the tank, eating well and still chasing the lady guppies....good lad.

HI hud316
Isn't it great when our fish surprise us in a good way.
Sometimes they are more adaptable than we give them credit for,

Hopefully he will continue to do well!

That is great news about your Guppy.
I'd be tempted to do a large water change now, because whatever the Guppy had is now gone by possibly popping (like you said, either that or just disappeared) and the contents is in the water.
