HI I have a question for all the women out there. I was wanting to know since we all do water changes if yall paint your nails? I havn't been painting mine since I started fish keeping but I painted mine today. I won't be doing wc for another 2 days and was just wondering if any of you paint your nails. I worry it would not be safe. What do yall think about this? Maybe by monday the polish will not harm them??? p.s. I know this is not the right place to write this but I didnt know where??? Sorry...

I'm not sure... I don't paint my nails anymore for that same reason.

I've seen a thread about this before, but I don't remember what the general consensus was. You can get some gloves if you're worried (they even make really long ones so you can stick your whole arm in the tank). I don't paint my nails too often (habit from working at Starbucks in the past) so it hasn't come up for me, personally.

I know I havn't been and I worry about it. I just wonder if the worst of it wears off after a day or so just like the smell goes away?? I don't really know.

Yes I guess I could get some gloves. Thanks for that idea!

I would think that the only harm would be if the paint chipped off and went in to the tank. Gosh, I haven't painted mine in years ( kids do that to ya! LOL )

I don't really paint my nails. If I did besides almost never, I wouldn't worry about it unless they were good and dry or the paint was chipping. The other nail stuff, outside of paint, like acrylic and nail hardener, I'd be more worried about.

The odour should evaporate fairly quickly, and the remaining nail lacquer should be fine, seeing as we use our hands to cook/prepare food, hold food and eat, wipe faces, wipe kids faces, scratch your nose/mouth, etc. If nail polish is bad, then we've got bigger problems than the effects on our fish!!

I usually wait about a day after painting my nails.
