Hey just thought I should share my new pleco and does anyone have any tips for keeping them?

Looks like you have a clown pleco. They're primarily wood eaters, so if you have any driftwood in your tank, that's where your fish will spend most of its time. Still, you'll want to supplement its diet with algae wafers, high-protein sinking foods, blanched vegetables, and more every night after lights out.
My own clown pleco rarely comes out during the day, but when it does, it sure is fun to watch!

It's called a rio negro or a candy stripe pleco

Is that what the store told you it was? This is the closest picture I could find of a candy striped pleco on Google:
And here's a google picture of a clown pleco:
As you can see, the candy striped pleco has distinctive and straight yellow-brown bars going all the way to its head, whereas the clown pleco has more jagged, broken yellow-brown bars near its head, much like your own photo.
Hopefully you weren't cheated :-\

It's not a candy stripe pleco.
From what I can see, the Rio Negro pleco is L135, L135 has been described as Peckoltia braueri. I just picked one of those up, and yours does not look like it.
