I wanted to try out breeding for the first time, Now I have the tank set up for the breeding and for the fry to grow out, it’s a 20 gal filled about more than half of the way. I took out my 2 biggest females and brighest male and moved them into the tank. But the females seem uninterested in breeding with the male? What should I continue?(coralbandit any tips?)

They spawn in places with a lot of plants. Do you have any moss? It is good to feed them high fat and protein food for 1-2 weeks before breeding. Brine shrimp and bloodworms are good. Also daily water changes helps. What are you going to feed the fry?

They usually spawn wherever, the plants are only there so the parents don’t eat the eggs and fry can eat any infusoria off them. The females already seemed full of eggs, which was why I picked them. And some just add them to the new tank and they’ll usually just breed.

I was thinking of getting brine shrimp eggs and microworms, but i’ve seen many people say they’ve had them survive off the food they feed the adults.

My cherry barbs breed in my community tank without me putting in any effort but the eggs get eaten right away by the tetras. I noticed feeding them blood worms triggers breeding.

Okay, I just ordered some brine shrimp eggs. Should be here this week. I’ll move back 2 of the barbs and keep a single female.
