I just found a tiny ramshorn snail in my planted tank. I think it came in a bit of sand that my kuhlis came with.
will it be a problem in the tank? I also have some small unidentified snails that came on plants.

Yup they may breed like mad but it's ok.

Oh, thanks. I think there is only one ramshorn, and it's a baby. I'm hoping that will keep me from getting more snails

The pest snails that I've gotten from plants locally (Ontario) are 'mini ramshorns'. I don't know what their actual name is, but they look like a tiny version of a ramshorn - a round, flat shell that they carry perpendicular to their body. This may be what you've got. They reproduce like crazy - so if you don't want them, remove them from the tank as soon as you see them - or you'll have tons. They're not harmful at all, but you can easily have a population explosion if you don't get on them
These kind of 'pest' snails seem to be more common here than bladder/pond snails. Mine have come on plants (twice) from Petsmart.

Yeah, that does sound like what I might have.
As long has they're not harmful I'll just leave it alone.
Do they eat algae ect. ?

Yes they do. I have "pest" snails in all of my tanks. I have found if there is huge boom in snails I know there is imbalance in tank . Probably too much food. I dont mind them and find they don't over take a healthy tank

They will clean the plants & glass, like most snails do.

Once grown one will become hundreds. They are great cleaners but once their established you will never get rid of them. I take mine out of my shrimp tank and put them in their own small tank, then sell them. If you don’t want an army of them, stop it now while you can.

Personally I don't mind snails and haven't really had a issue of them taking over. I am careful not to over feed tho. If they start to get too many you can always scoop some out and let a LFS have them or give them away to other fish people!
