Hi. My guppy dropped fry last night. Not unusual I know, but so did my platy. 47 miniatures of mum. I have had guppy fry before and they were normal size, but the platy fry are half the size of the guppy fry. Is this normal? Or could they have been premature? They are only about 4mm in length! Many thanks for any replies.

platys are typically more of a squatty kind of build while guppys are long and narrow, it's normal.

Hi EndlessEndlers, Welcome to Fishlore! Platy fry are usually smaller than Guppies so nothing to worry about. 47 fry is a big batch too, and big litters are usually result in smaller fry as well.

Many thanks for your replies. Another question - are platy fry slow growers? They are in a breeding trap at the moment. Not ideal. Can't put in guppy/ platy tank because they will get eaten. Would set up my 10 gallon but husband would rant! I have an endler tank and wonder if they can go in there. The endlers don't seem to eat their young at all.
