It's a new world Cichlid, not an African of any kind. Pelmatolapia mariae has a different head and body shape, as well as color on the body that would not be hidden by the black.. The color has me flabbergasted, as I know of no species that is that flat black on either continent. My gut wants to say some sort of Port Cichlid, as those are the closest I can think of to that shape and absence of bright color, and the number of spines in the analfin also suggest Cichlasoma. There are such fish invasive in Florida. I would love to see what the fry grow up to look like, might give us a better idea.
