I am doing a project in which I am finding the best breeding conditions for Tilapia HELP I know the basics but some sort of supply list and tips would be great. I am in a magnet program for Natural Resources and I will work on this project for my last 2 years in high school some suggestions on where else I could take this would be great.

*Edit*
I will be breeding them

What is the scale of this project and what is your budget. Are we talking 5 ibc totes in the garage or a 240 on a shelf? The main thing you will have to think about is the size of these fish you will getting. Oh and do you have a livestock feed store like tractor supply?

Budget isn't really an issue I'm almost positive I can get a grant and its a 120 on a pallet running with an aquaponics sytem with it I'm just in charge of the fish and yes I believe so

i'm not completely sure I believe they are Nile

I think, like many African cichlids, these fish breed easily. Keep their water very pristine, use a large (I think maybe add a few more zeros to the right on whatever number you are thinking of), maintain tropical (70 degrees F range?) temps, and feed a good vegetable based diet. Other than that, I think you should find an aquaponics forum.

From what I have found from breeding fish you need to figure out how much they can eat in a day. Like koi can eat 5 times easy. I feed guppies 3 times. Auto feeders to get them fat and healthy. You may have to do water changes and use the plants to determine when you are changing to much. Next is a good breeding temp. I'm guessing ita outside since it has aquaponics so you will have little control.

Oh in that case use a room heater not an aquarium heater. It is safer for the fish. If you have to use aquarium heaters use a neotherm, I have heard good things about them.

I'm going all out if money is not a factor.

They are an invasive species everywhere, so they are not hard to breed and I think they show parental care. A google search should give you all the information you need.

Yes get another tank and have good quality food and feed frequently.
If you do the room heater just keep them in that room and the wayer will stay the same temp. If you use an aquarium heater yes get another. If you want to get a tote and raise them to a decent size and have a fish bake or you can do a charity dinner or something useful to share the wealth. Other than that sell them or cull.
