I have a tiger pistol shrimp and he just molted for the first time and he lost his claws during the process has this happened to anyone? He seems fine though still digging in the sand and my yellow watchman goby don't seem worried about it.

That means the molt didnt go well.
I believe you just need to feed some type of food with more calcium.

There should be enough calcium (and iodine) in the salt pre-mix you use. I've never kept shrimp (my fish eat them) though I've kept many crabs over the years/now and never had that happen. Hope it works out for him?

* Kyle23 , I just looked it up but no articles to post here. I did find a thread on another forum where a few members posted for a person who had the same trouble as you say that the claws do grow back, usually during the next molting unless there is something else wrong (disease etc...) good luck.

Yes they grow back next molt. Slowly.
I don't know what you mean by "salt pre-mix" but that doesn't sound like food.
It needs to eat some type of food with calcium.

. Tropical Tanks or other Freshwater keepers. Salt mix (pre-mix, same thing) is what Saltwater keepers use to prepare our water for marine life. In this MIX there is both calcium and the magnesium (along with other necessary ingredients) necessary to keep the calcium in the water column etc... Have a nice day .

Ohh ok got it.
But he still must not be getting enough or he would have molted without losing claws

If you insist.
But please do feed it something with more calcium as that will insure the molting process goes smoothly.

Thanks for all the input on the matter. My shrimp is doing well the claws are growing back slowly which is great. He was having trouble digging without them. I did read that during the molt if they get stuck they will tear them off to escape the old shell. But thanks again for all the input that's why I joined up ☺
