when I get rid of my old fish I was wondering how many tiger barbs can go in a 29 g with other species still added?

It would depend upon what you still have in the tank....Could you list what fish you have and what you would be keeping? What would you do with the fish that you want to 'get rid of'???

The fish I have now are oscars and jack dempseys so I have to give them away since I can't get anything bigger than a 29 gallon, and other than that I have a pleco and would like a community aquarium.

Tiger barbs get up to 3" long each....The rule of thumb is 1" of adult sized fish per gallon of water.....What type of pleco is it? Common plecos get up to 12" or more in length and are huge waste producers.....

It's a common pleco and he is pretty big I'd say maybe 6 or 7 inches.

He's gonna get a lot bigger and really should be in something closer to 40 gallon or more.......Big waste producer too.....I wouldn't recommend it, but if you choose to keep him you'd have to drop down on the number of fish you'd want to keep in total.....I wouldn't do any more than 4 tiger barbs. That would put you at approx. 24" of fish if you keep the pleco.

Hi, I just thought I would pipe in to say that I have a 29 gallon tank and have 5 tiger barbs, 2 platy, a tricolor shark and two common pleco. I am currently cycling another tank to put my other pleco in. I know that the pleco can't be in there forever but for now they seem happy. They are 4 and 41/2 inches long. (still pretty small) I am still new at this but I just thought I would add my two cents. I know that bristle nose pleco don't get nearly as big, if maybe you could trade the store or something. The plecos are actually my favorite fish in my tank. Good Luck
