HI there,
I currently have a cousin's tiger barb that looks awful. My cousin spent an unexpected 3 weeks in hospital, in those 3 weeks all the attention his fish seen was his room mate throwing in some food everyday.
Cousin is now home and rang me to ask for my small hospital tank, one of his barbs didn't look good.
I'll attach some pictures below but I don't know what we're dealing with here. His fins are in bad shape and his mouth is hanging open but I see no fuzz or fungus or anything else apart from he looks pale.
Before my cousin went into hospital he noticed the barb had a lesion on his side, nothing serious and decided to just keep an eye on it and keep water clean but he didn't get a chance to do that when he went into hospital.
I'm unsure what our poor barb has here, is it some sort of rot or infection brought on by the lesion on his side not healing properly or could it be damage from fighting with other barbs in the tank?
Cousin has a 260litre with bala sharks, tiger barbs and silver dollars, think a couple cories at bottom too.
I'm unsure what the parameters were, I didn't personally test them but he's had his tank for a few years now and I doubt there would be ammonia or nitrites present, probably high nitrates as a result of no water changes for 3 weeks.
I have paraguard in the cupboard but its his mouth that really concerns me.
Any ideas of what has happened him and how I go about treating him?
Thanks in advance
