So went to the store last week and picked up 5 coreys. Only wanted 4 but the tank only had 5 in it total so I didnt want to leave 1 guy by himself. He went nuts and she super stressed him out trying to get him out.
Fast forward. Last night 1 Corey was loosing buoyancy. Got some white over his eyes, lost his coloring to a grey and had shallow breathing. I took the driftwood out and boiled it and washed it, did a 30% water change and lowered the temp (was 78) added water conditioner and bacteria. An hour later his breathing was a better speed, but still heavy. Bottom half of his eyes looked bloodshot, under his belly looked red, equivalent where his gills were but dead center. Started swimming around again, however woke up this AM and he was on the filter inlet. Its very strong for my tank but I don't know if he died first or got stuck to it and couldnt get out of it.
Noticed the tiger barbs orange tips are extremely vibrant. Not sure if this is just them being healthy or part of the same unknown water condition. Ive had many tiger barbs over the years and don't recall such vibrate orange. Did my best to get a pic but they dart all over the place non stop.
Could be coincidence or not but Idk. Did the stress finally catch up to this little guy? There was always 1 corey separate from the pack but Idk which is the one that didnt make it, they all appeared identical.
API test kit shows PH 7.4ish , ammonia 0 nitrite 0 trate a smidge lighter than the 5 mark.
Two or three days ago I removed the dwarf baby tears from their pots and rooted them in the sand, adding Aqueon liquid plant food in. Other than that everyone has appeared healthy and no other issues.
