Thoughts on glass catfish ?

I was thinking of getting a school of glass catfish to add to my 55 gal community
I currently have 12 neons, 5 cherry barbs (I’ve had them for 2 years), some ghost shrimp, and 4 otos, so I was thinking of adding 6 glass cats and then stop stocking my tank
my water is slightly hard (around 4-5 dGH), temp is 76F, and pH is about 6.8
so, what I’m trying to ask really, what are your thoughts on glass catfish ?? are they good fish ??? I’ve heard they’re wild caught but I’ve heard the same about otos
should I get them ???

They’re pretty hardy fish, I had 3 of them but now I only have 1 left. The other two died for no reason?! I think I got unlucky and bought older ones- that’s one of two reasons why I’m not getting them again, the other is because they always hide in larger tanks, it might be different with a bigger school but mine just hid in the plants when they were in the 55 gallon.

thank you !! I just wanted to make sure that it was a good decision and I wasn’t getting into something way over my head also losing fish out of the blue is so irritating, I lost a lot of neons out of nowhere a couple years ago and struggled to find a reason why

Yeah.. sometimes fish just die for no apparent reason. The only thing that could possibly be difficult about these guys is the fact that some don’t eat pellets or flakes. Just make sure to check if the source your getting them from has them readily eating flakes/pellets.

Hi! I have 4 glass catfish and one of the reasons they hide a lot is because they like to stay floating in moving water , otherwise they become bored . I feed mine frozen bloodworms and they will also eat other foods that stay in the water column.

They look really awesome when the lights hit them the right way. Check out PlanetCatfish for info on them as well. There are several species of them.
