Nice Sheena. The Sword in the left front corner will be huge though (bleherI I think). Better to replace that to a back corner I think.

I don't know if anyone asked this but did you plant your Java fern directly into the sand?

No one has, but none of it is buried. The one in the back is being weighed down with a piece of metal. And the rest have been tied to various pieces of wood.

So my friend has a powder blue gourami and she wants to sell it, would it be compatible with my fish? I've heard that they can be aggressive. I would just get her gourami instead of a dwarf gourami.

If you want to try it, you can! Not all are aggressive.

I think it's a golden apple snail. Mystery I think. He's the apple of my eye.....aha hahaha ha ha, OK bad pun. The lfs gave him to me, said that he might not make it. But he's cruising around my aquarium now.

So I was wondering if I could add some fish to my tank. So far I have
-8 neon tetras
-8 glow light tetras
-1golden apple snail
-Shrimp (ghost, cherry, amano around 10 in total)
-3 bronze Corydoras ( will be buying 2 more in the next week)
-1 dwarf gourami (getting this weekend)
Now would I be able to add fish or am I stocked to the gills? I had harlequin rasboras 6 of them but they all died within two weeks.

Nice tank and good taste in fish! I think you have enough species in the tank personally. If you want to add more, I'd add three more corys. My corys love hanging out in groups. I don't believe they are are necessarily "schooling fish," but they are social and it's quite a sight to see them dart across the tank in unison. I don't know much about shrimp or their bio load but either way, I wouldn't add another species of fish. My thoughts on your hardscape however, I think you have too much going on. The wood, rock and pots are quite a lot for the eye to see. I would stick to two or less hardscape elements in a planted tank.

Lol thanks for your feed back! I need a lot of rocks to hold down the wood or else it would just float to the top.

I think you can increase the number of individuals in your existing schools, but I wouldn't go with a different species.

Someday, it will sink! My most determined floating log finally gave up after a year submerged. It was a fight to the bitter end though. Since then, every piece of wood I can I attach to slate with stainless steel screws

Hmmm and I love the pots on the white sand. It definitely doesn't look bad though so yo can get away with it! May I ask why you decided against ottos?

Thanks! I love pots in a tank, their so versatile. I didn't go with ottos because, well the only fish store in town sells them for about 12$ each. That was way to much for me. Also I talked to the employees and they told me they have a hard time keeping them alive. I could order them online, but I just don't feel comfortable shipping ottos as from what I understand they are very delicate with water conditions and the place I order from online is a province over, even with their excellent DOA policy I don't want to buy fish that don't ship well. Besides corys are sooooooo cute!!!!

Wow that's expensive. And yes, I'd imagine they would all die during shipping or shortly after, they are difficult to keep, and some will inevitably die. I'd say my success rate is less than 75%, one batch, 50%. Maybe one day! They are fun little buggers and excellent tank companions with corys, they love each others company!

I think female. Congrats! They're such beautiful and peaceful fish. As you can tell, I'm a fan. They do love floating plants if you don't already have some.

Hey! So it's been awhile and in that time my three cories have been spawning like crazy! I am actually raising some of their eggs and have about 20 or so of them thriving in a 10 gallon.

Anyways my gourami turned out to be a male. he has it out for my cories. Don't know why.

I have another tank also in the works (45 gallons) it's a headache it's very tall) so stocking it is going to be oh so fun (not) am going to be taking the glow light tetras from this tank (36 gallon one) and moving them to my tall tank.

Also thinking of getting a bristle nose pleco for the bow front and getting a new group of schooling fish when the glow lights are out.
I've noticed that my tetras are kinda scared of the gourami. When I get more fish are they any tetras that prefer the middle of the tank?

Buenos Aires tetras tend to stay in the middle though they go everywhere. Also they're one of the bigger tetras so it can stand its ground with the gourami.

I have long fin black skirt tetras, there pretty large and stay mostly in the middle
