Good morning this morning when I got up I did as always stumbled into the living room to say good morning to my boys and Malcolm as usual got all excited and commenced with the food dance and as I looked over expecting the same from HoudinI he was just lieing in his sleeping plant I panicked he normally comes racing over as mal does I poked him gently and his little fin started to move so I acted immediately checked water parameters and all is as it should be but I commenced with a water change anyway and he drifted from one plant to another so I was still panicking. I did a 50% used apI stress coat and amquel plus as always. I then fed Malcolm his breakfast as at this point he was going nuts and put in some flake for houdinI as he likes it and wasn't expecting much response but now he is as normal swimming around eating his food chasing anything that happens to float by. Could he have been asleep and I gave him an almighty wake up call? There are no signs of stress no clamped fins colour is beautiful as ever I'm a little confused maybe he just wanted a lie in? He is currently flaring off at Malcolm. Mal started it think he was jealous that he wasn't getting all of the attention
Has anyone else has this with their bettas

I think you're over re-acting just a little I'm sure he just wasn't awake yet.

Did you name Mal after Firefly?

Hey cichlidnut thank you I can be a little overprotective of my boys at least he got his water change early he's still trying to swim around and eat everything doh. Yeah Malcolm is named after Captain Malcolm Reynolds they share the same spirit lol they both aI'm to misbehave I loved that series quite like Nathan Fillion too he's one of my favourite tv actors did you watch Firefly?

Oh, I've seen a few of the episodes. a few dozen times. Got to see Jewel Stait at a ScI FI Convention too.

I try to give my fish a little time to wake up in the morning. They aren't always morning creatures.

That's cool I would love to meet them all
Yeah I think you're right he's acting as if nothing happened he's just looking at me as if to say what's going on and Malcolm is in a mood because he wasn't the centre of attention

You better pay more attention your Mal then, I think he can get cranky from time to time.

There is something I wanted to ask as u have many many endlers don't worry I don't want your fish I am getting a 200 litre aquarium my stocking list is going to be this and in order of introduction of fish
1x blue phantom plec
5x adolphoi corydoras
5x either green neon cory or Venezuelan blacks
3x pearl gourami possibly just two
4x sparkling gourami maybe 5

Would I be able to put a school of endlers in with these to add colour and movement or would it be too much my new found favourite LFS stocks them I know completely off topic but I was going to ask anyway

Last night when I got up Simon was just laying on the bottom. It looked.like he was wedged under the coffee mug that is serving as a temporary cave until I can get him a real one. I panicked and stuck my hand down there and he looked at me like what is your problem. Then he swam to the top and begged for food. After he ate he wedged himself back down there again. I don't know what it is about that spot unless it is just more cavey looking to him. So maybe that's a betta game - panic the hand that feeds you.

The gourami will most likely eat them. They are pretty small. Also, they don't "school" they kind of roam in mass looking for food

Endlers are great!

Lol my boys are very good at that usually its Malcolm though maybe HoudinI has learned his bad habits. After losing Percy and Smurgle I am a little overprotective good job I haven't got any kids they'd be bubble wrapped lol

How old is Houdini?

I got him two weeks this Wednesday and he wasn't full grown but nearly. I've been keeping my eye on him he's hanging around the top of the tank a lot but I did use amquel plus when I did the water change this morning so I expect that and he seems ok he's never been as responsive as Malcolm I just put it down to his personality he has been swimming round like a looney again though and is coming over when go over to him. I'm hoping he's just a semI lazy fish I'm always amazed how different there personalities can be. He is pooing well he's just shown me bless

I'm glad they are doing well. Sound like they've got energy to burn if they are flaring at each other
Do you have any updated pictures of them?

This is mine that I got from a breeder. It's amazing how much more active he is than the ones I got from my LFS This little guy Never stops moving! So I understand them not cooperating.

MogwaI is such a handsome boy amazing colouring I never see many plakats in my LFS and in the chain one I only ever see veil tails my usual betta place has crown tails and half moons sometimes and the last LFS I found rare fish specialists yay had some plakats in betta barracks I think they are called but one had jumped in with another overnight and got killed so they had to rethink how to keep them. Really pretty little fish though they were dragons . HoudinI never keeps still that's why I panicked yesterday crazy little fish

Lol Malcolm is recovering from a bit of tail loss so he is a little faster at the moment I managed to get a couple of sneaky shots until he figured what I was doing and swam off lol
When Malcolm got ammonia burned about four months ago he lost about half of his tail and he looked just like a plakat he was so fast he kept swimming into the side of the tank doh

My Emmett is a very heavily finned VT. He's a lazy one, always lounging and draping himself across ornaments. It was terrifying the first few days until I got used to seeing him like that. He does this thing I call "being dramatic" when he wants attentions; he drapes himself sideways over an ornament like he's swooning.

My Elston, a double tail, only ever lounges at night. He goes under a bridge I have in his tank and masquerades as a shadow. Occasionally, he sleeps with his head inside a reptile skull. I don't like that very much but he's fine.

Isn't it amazing how different betta temperaments can be? Emmett enjoys his snail and ghost shrimp tankmates. Elston tolerates no one in his tank.

It always amazes me Malcolm is my diva he has tantrums mood swings and sulks but he also gets really excited and happy which is very cute. He does like flaring too where as HoudinI is a little sweetheart he's the most active betta I've had so far and is always looking about the tank for food I've even caught him digging like a corydora he's a looney if I'm sitting watching television and wave to them they come to the front of the tank and get very excited its really cute to see and then I feel obliged to go over and say hello
Would love to see some pictures of your boys

HoudinI has come over this morning in his usual cutey manner mal has only just woke up came over saw I hadn't got any food and gone back to his usual perch
