This Popeye Won't Go Away!

I'm at my wit's end with this popeye that my Crowntail betta, Datsun, has had for the last couple of months.

When he first developed it, I made a mistake and treated him with E.M. Pro, a medication that was very much expired. That ended up only making the popeye stronger. Then I went on a course of aquarium salt and warmer temperatures. After about two weeks of no improvement, I decided to get Maracyn Two. I gave him the full dose and no improvement at all.

Finally I did my last resort and gave him the full treatment of API's Tetracycline. Still no dice.

What is there left to do? I've read about directly applying silver nitrate on the popeye. He's since lost sight in that eye but can still see with the other eye. He's eating normally.

did you try maracyn 1? One treats gram negative and the other treats gram positive, so if you are unaware of the kind of bacterial infection (must of us can't culture it and determine the difference) it's best to treat with both maracyn one and two together.

It might be that the eye is too far gone and will fall out one day.

It looks like it already has. There's no eye at all, just the huge tumor-like swelling. No, I didn't get Maracyn 1. I'll give it another try and get both 1 and 2.

if you've already tried 2 then I wouldn't try it again unless there is a secondary infection that has since come up. It says you can dose twice though, so maybe it's worth trying again.

Well, if it didn't work the first time around, why would it work the second time? Maracyn 1 might have a better chance than 2.

I agree, I'm just reading the directions.

Unilateral popeye is often a result of an injury - did anything happen? Is there sharp decor in the tank? But, by the sound of it it could just be a tumor that has displaced the eye? can you post a pic?

The photos weren't of a very good quality, so I took a video instead.

You said that there's no eye? So that is just whatever is growing in there?

At first glance, it looked like there was no eye, but with the magnifying glass and the video, it looks like there still is a lens there.

Did you see the video?

yes, but it was tough for me to really see more than the protrusion.

If the maracyn 1 doesn't work, I would be hoping the eye fell out...
