Did they have a fight?

She just insists on owning every pot and cave in the tank. So he hangs out in the plant. Crazy fish!

You need more caves. His position of hiding with his face down means he is scared or hiding from something else. Most likely the other BP as you mentioned.

that's good to know. leave it to the blood parrot whisper to lets us know what's up

After almost a decade of breeding BPs you notice things like that!

I have a few, and the dominant female kicks him out of every one. No matter what I do. I move the rocks, re-arrange the tank, move plants.

How could I build up a higher rock structure that they can't topple? I'd like to have a high wall like in cichlid tanks.

If he makes his presence known, she chases him all over pushing at him. She is a huge bully.

Being a 55 gallon I can't add another to calm things down a bit, divert the aggression.

if you don't mind doing a lot of work you can build anything with styrofoam and concrete mix.

You can also build a wall by gluing rocks together into a pile. The base nerds to be larger than the top and flat. I used pieces of slate as a base usually.

Awwww too cute.

Agreed with Rogue concerning the behavior. The nose pointed downward is a defensive posture.

Give that girl one of these "Be nice!"

My son and I collected rocks and they're soaking. I'm going to make huge walls w/ built in pipe and pot caves. Hopefully missy will select a few and let mr have at least one.

I added a 2 caves last night and she hogged them both. Really, 3 caves to herself and none for him?

What can you say, females of all species are very demanding lol.

Aww I would say he looks adorable, but I'd feel bad since apparently he's not a happy camper haha. Good luck with your new rocks!

You posting about your BPs makes me really want to have some. I've been noticing BPs whenever I go to the LFS.

I think they're cute, but my boyfriend thinks they look silly...so I doubt I'll ever have any. That's okay, there are so many types of fish, I'm sure there are plenty we can agree on. (Maybe my LFS just has deformed ones? )

Opposite for us. Husband wanted, I didn't. I had planned a cichlid tank. But hey, it got him interested in my hobby. LOL.

I think I'm going with my original plan, using block pavers to create caves. Pavers are square and easy to stack. I want something heavy enough to withstand these fish.

I may even semi-divide the tank a bit to calm aggression. Give them each their own side in a way.

Pictures soon, I hope?

I tried really hard to wait until this weekend to build up caves. But, I have no restraint. Haha. Really, I HAD to protect my fish. LOL.

So this is my "for now" photo. 5 new pots, aka caves, to hide in.

I like the look of your tank...the caves are awesome...is it working? Is he still hiding in the plant?

I don't like it, kinda boring. Prince has moved out of the plant and into a pot. Sunshine is breeding again so couldn't move her house, she's in biting mode.

Poor guy, I know how he feels. I've tried hiding from my wife inside of our house plant. She always finds me though.

I'm in the market for a second BP to keep my Beep company. BF tells me all the ones we see in the store look like they're judging him. He doesn't think Beep is judging him, just staring into his soul.

psalm, I'm glad Prince has found a home. Apparently, Sunshine wants a mansion!

Right, she has to have at least 3 pots herself.

Update. So with all those added caves and broken sight, things calmed down for a bit.

Now she's at it again. She has eggs and is digging to China. She now comes out and seeks him out of hiding. Then she chases him around the tank and aggressively attacks him. It's quite disturbing.

I even pulled the giant danios out of QT to help. Nope, she's still seeking him out.

I wonder if she has red devil in her?

I honestly am thinking of dividing the tank, or giving her a home by herself.
He hides and doesn't fight back. I'm getting concerned.

I had a DG that would chase my neons. I put him in a in the tank refugium for a week then let him go and he stopped. just something to try, hope it stops soon.

Another idea I have is to build a wall, using stone, to separate the 2 BPs. I would leave a small hole for the smaller fish to come and go.

How would catching her and keeping in net help? Wouldn't that just make her more afraid of me?

Maybe taking her out while you rearrange and let Prince establish territory first? I used to have to do that with my hamsters.

What may have happened is that the DG no longer felt he had a territory to defend once you put it back in the tank.

yea I had the DG in then I added the neons. so they were invading his home.

Broke up sight lines even more w/ higher rock caves.

Today I used what was on hand and re-scaped the tank. 7 caves, including multi-level hiding spots. Plants for security and hide outs. So far it's working.
