I was thinking about starting a saltwater tank in the future. Any tips? Best starter livestock?

Read all the information you can from reliable sources. They is a lot more to them then just adding salt.

Buy the biggest tank & best filtration system you can afford.
Damsel fish are the traditional starter fish.
Speaking from experience, be prepared to spend serious money. The salty side of this hobby is considerably more expensive than the freshwater side.

Ready mixed salt water in my area is $15 for five gallons. Marine tanks require water with a PH of 8.2.
My marine tank was an Oceanic 58 gal. I ran a Marineland canister filter and had an in line UV sterilizer.
I mixed my replacement water using Instant Ocean sea salt & changed out 10 gallons a week.
