Think About Starting A Shrimp Tank

I really like shrimp. The colors are so nice and vibrant, so I have been thinking of starting a shrimp tank. They are just so expensive everywhere I look so I am afraid to get them and mess up and kill them all! I know gh and kh are important so I ordered a test kit. I bought some moss and cholla wood. I have a 10 gallon tank that has been set up for many months with 2 endlers and 3 ottos. I have a tank for the Endlers to go in but the Ottos would remain.

I really don’t know what type of shrimp to get, no ghost shrimp though as I’ve had them and they were awful! I also have no clue what else I really need to do to prepare the tank for the shrimp! Like should I buy a bunch of moss or subwassertang or moss balls. Elder cones? I have no clue! The tank is planted already but I think I want to take some of those plants out. Also I was thinking of putting some lava rock in too but idk how that would do in a shrimp tank. Currently I have river rocks but the lava rock looks cooler.

Any help or suggestions on what I need to do would be greatly appreciated!

I was thinking wild type or RCS. I like the blue ones but I think the RCS would be easier to start with.

The dark blue ones look nice but really anything blue is appealing! But I still think I would start with RCS or the wild type. I was going to order some from Trin’s as they were only $2 each but they’ve sold out of them!!

That’s too bad the rcs cost $2 the blue ones?

Red cherries are probably the easiest and cheapest to start with.

That’s too bad. What is your max price each and how many are you going to buy? I’ll keep an eye out and send you the link if I find some.

10 shrimp and I think under $4 is a good price.

How do most of you all acclimate your shrimp? Drip method?

I think drip is the best way. I have read

These are lower grade but below price range. These come with moss balls https://www.amazon.com/12-Cherry-Shrimp-Neocaridina-Marimo/dp/B00MRATR8C?keywords=live+shrimp&qid=1534704620&sr=8-1-
spons&ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa&psc=1. ‘This is a little above your price range but they are high grade
There are twelve of these but cheap.
Without shipping these yellows are within price range same with these blues

Orange dwarf crayfish are the size of shrimp but better, in my opinion.

Red Cherry Shrimp.
One of my LFSs sells the orange dwarf crayfish! I wanted one but I haven’t gotten on yet. As soon as I placed my order at AquaticArts I realized I could’ve gotten one there as well!

Why better?

I personally think they're cute and have more personality. I'm getting on for my 37 gallon once it's cycled.
