OK, in an earlier thread of mine, written just after Elvis passed away due to a power outage, I had decided not to get another betta. So, this morning while we were grocery shopping at Wal-Mart, I went to pick up some cat food and treats. (everyone knows where this is going ) So I passed by the bettas. Most of them were in okay conditions, but very still. Then I saw one guy flaring like there was no tomorrow! And man, was he BIG! Then I saw the state of his tail...
The poor boy's tail was completely gone except for a shredded strand at the bottom. So I picked him up, and raced back to my parents. They said no. Big surprise. I stood my ground and told them that if he wasn't put in clean, warm water with good food, he would die. And I held him up to them, (he was still flaring) and said that he wanted to live. (a bit dramatic, but it did the trick! ) So now I have a beautiful green betta, who is lovin' his new home with Dolce, the frog. (Dolce's a bit freaked out by him, but he'll get used to him).

Hehehehe. I feel like such a hypocrite right now.

He has a red and blue bottom fin, which is unusual coloring, but handsome! His body is a deep emerald green, which ws what kind of caught my eye...that and the flaring. Because he's such a feisty boy, I've decided to name him Rocky (after Rocky Balboa).

Here's some pics (sorry for the blurriness, but you can really see his color!)

Oh, his color is so pretty, but my goodness, his poor little tail.
I hope you're able to get him healthy.
Good luck

My mom has some fin rot medication at work that she used on her fish. She's going to bring some home, but until then, SUPER CLEAN water, high protein food, and some garlic. Don't forget major observation. He's incredibly active, swimming just for the pure joy of being able to move, I suspect. He loves the cave, probably because Mommy can't take pictures of him when he's in there!

Thanks everyone! And no wonder he's huge...he sure does love to pig out! And begs mercilessly! He likes to sleep o the suction cup that holds up the heater. Considering he was in a tiny cup, he probably enjoys the warmth.

I decided to give him a little variety in his tank, so I put in a floaty silk plant by the heater. I just looked over...and Dolce and Rocky are sleeping side by side on it. I think they're BAFFs now. (Best Aquatic Friends Forever) Rocky looks more like a royal blue boy now, but he still looks incredibly green in some lights...
