Thin Molly

TheNacho

I got 3 lyretail mollies 4 months ago. One of them looked kinda thin and I thought she'll get rounder, but now she still looks significantly thinner than the others despite eating about as much as them. She also rests on the substrate more often than the others. Is this a reason to be concerned?

Pics attached: thin fish is the top one

I can't tell from the photos if the skinny one is male or female. I've had males that look a lot thinner than females. Is the fish eating? If it stops eating & starts to look sunken in or the top of the fish starts to kind of "arc" then it's time to be concerned. From the photos they look okay though!

I'm pretty certain its a female, judging from the analfin. She eats plenty and seems to have a good appetite. What condition or disease so you think she might have?

It sounds like an internal problem, I don't know if theirs much you can do. It could be worms or such, but I couldn't tell you exactly what she has

I'm unsure from the photos, mollies & Livebearers in General are prone to so many things. The most common ones I see in stores near me are ICH, shimmying, wasting disease or skinny disease, fungus, sometimes intestinal problems/parasites cause bloating or thinning. Could you maybe update us with a few new photos if you get the opportunity?

Thanks! I forgot to ask about the poo
Also if one of the others is pregnant she could just look bigger when comparing sizes to the the one in question. (If that makes sense)

Attached some photos from this morning. I think she might be looking a *bit* rounder than before... Sorry For the low quality. She's the one with the black eye.

I don't remember when was the last time I saw her poop, but I don't think I ever saw weird poop from her or any of the other fish.

Also none of the other fish are pregnant, they're all females and I've had them for a few months now.

None of my local fish stores carry meds :/ pretty much the only med the stores in my country sell is ich medicine, and in the last months because of covid they're understoked to the point where they don't even have aquarium salt...

She's beautiful! I had a very hard time finding the yellow leopard looking mollies in my area, so congrats on that.
I CAN now see the difference, the other's stomachs are much rounder- where her's seems to be almost a straight line. You said she was resting more? Any other symptoms or behaviors?
I would say to maybe try the General Cure but if you don't have access to it.. Then just monitor, lots of clean water. I give my mollies Peas regularly- it can aid with lots of things. I use aquarium salt with mine only when they are sick. It usually seems to help- but it would depend on who else neighbors them in the tank.
I've been searching for something kind of homeopathic you could use in leau of unavailable meds & I'm not having much luck sorry
Maybe another member will chime in with a no-med alternative?

Actually she doesn't seem to be resting on the substrate much recently! I only saw her doing it once this week. I'll check my lfs after I get back from work, but I doubt they'll have anything.

That's a good sign! Maybe just time will tell. Are you in the states? I know my local stores like Petco do not carry any type of medication that is very useful. They only carry all natural or herbal remedies. All my meds I had to order from Amazon & Chewy
