Thick white film on top of water

I just finished planting my new 10 gallon about a week ago. They did not have any filters at the store so I’ve held off on getting fish but now my water has a really thick film on it. I got some gravel that is supposed to be good for plants idk if that’s doing something. I tried to move it to the side but it just kind of fell apart and some of the bigger pieces fell to the bottom of the tank. Here’s a photo after I moved it around. Does anyone know what this is and what I should do?

 

That's strange, never seen it before. Could be from the gravel, some kind of coating. Can you net it out?

 

It looks to be some kind of biofilm. If you have a airstone it will break it up so your filter can get it. You can also lay a piece of paper towel gently on the surface then when you pick it up it will stick to it. What kind of filter are you getting?

Have you been adding any food to feed the cycle?

 

I have not added anything to the water except water conditioner and some fish stress stuff to try and limit algae. I was going to buy a filter off of Amazon but have not ordered a specific one yet. I think I might have an airstone so I will try that. Thanks

 

As you mentioned, you tank has been running for about a week. It is very short time to tell anything about it. Especially in 10 gallons. I have one myself for a year now, planted . Still struggling to maintain balance fow some reason, while now doing any changes at all. And yet have 36 gallons that’s been established fow two years now, and doing awesome. First thing, make sure you have a lid. Lid protects from many factor, cooking oil , smoking, temperature fractures and so on. Then what filter you use ? What is you tab water qualities? Have you tested it? What are the parameters?
